Arkansas primary elections and what to bring to the polls

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Early voting for Arkansas primary elections begins Feb. 20. Here’s everything you need to know before heading to the polls.

The Director for the Washington County Election Commission, Jennifer Price, gave KNWA/FOX24 a rundown of what Washington County residents should expect this year.

Below are some key points on what she said.

1. Verify Your Voter Registration:

Before heading to the polls, voters must confirm their registration status. Visit VoterView.org to check if you are in the system. Ensure that your address is accurate, especially if you have recently made any changes.

2. Approved Forms of Identification:

To cast your vote, bring an approved form of photo ID or a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other valid government document displaying your name and address. This step is essential to comply with voting regulations and procedures.

3. Dress Code at the Polls:

Price emphasizes that voters should refrain from wearing any campaign materials or related items when they arrive to vote. This secures that the polling stations stay neutral and unbiased.

4. Early Voting Opportunities:

Price encourages voters to take advantage of early voting opportunities, which will be available at 18 sites throughout Washington County over the next two weeks. Early voting begins on February 20 and will end on March 4. This allows voters flexibility in choosing when and where to cast their ballots.

5. Open Primary System in Arkansas:

Given that this is a primary election in the state of Arkansas, the open primary system allows voters to choose their preferred ballot style on Election Day. Price recommends familiarizing yourself with the different styles beforehand to streamline the voting process.

6. Assistance at Voting Sites:

Should any issues arise during the voting process, Jennifer Price reassures voters that there will be a supervisor on standby to assist. Poll workers will be available starting at 8 a.m. on Election Day to ensure a smooth experience for everyone.
