Arkansas State Police searching for armed suspect after pursuit in Hempstead County

HEMPSTEAD COUNTY, Ark. – Arkansas State Police are searching for a man who they said led authorities on a high-speed pursuit in Hempstead County on Sunday

ASP officials said they are searching for 50-year-old Thaddeus Ray Carroll in connection with the incident.

During a traffic stop that happened around 9 p.m. on Sunday, troopers said they were taking the driver of the vehicle into custody when Carroll moved from the rear passenger seat into the driver seat and fled the scene with another passenger, 50-year-old Melanie Bormann.

Authorities said they deployed spike stripes and use a tactical vehicle intervention maneuver to stop the car. Police said Bormann aimed a firearm at a trooper during the incident.

Troopers said Carroll also had a firearm and he and Bormann fled from the scene into a nearby pasture

Officials said the ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division, K-9 and Aerial Units then responded to the scene. Officers with the Hope, Texarkana, and Ashdown Police Departments, the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas Game and Fish also assisted in the search.

Police said Bormann later surrendered without incident two hours into the search.

Authorities warned the public that Carroll should not be approached and should be considered armed and dangerous.
