Arkansas State Police seize nearly 200 pounds of illegal marijuana in trio of traffic stops

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – In three recent traffic stops, troopers with the Arkansas State Police have seized nearly 200 pounds of illegal marijuana.

During a traffic stop on Thursday, Feb. 8, troopers pulled over a vehicle in Little Rock at the 65th Street exit on Interstate 30 for a traffic violation. After searching the vehicle, they found two trash bags with 38 vacuum-sealed bags of illegal marijuana, each weighing approximately one pound.

The driver, 41-year-old Viet Quoc Truong of Arlington, Texas, was arrested and troopers said he is facing charges of felony furnishing, possessing or using prohibited articles, possession of controlled substances, intent to deliver and improper lane use.

Two hours later, troopers pulled over a vehicle on Interstate 40 in Conway County and after detecting an odor of marijuana, searched the vehicle and found two large bags containing vacuum-sealed bundles of illegal marijuana weighing 62 pounds.

Troopers took the driver, 44-year-old Anouphab Thairathom from Las Vegas into custody and he was transported to the Conway County Detention Center. Thairathom is facing charges of possession with the purpose to deliver a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Feb. 9, troopers pulled over an SUV on Interstate 40 in Conway County for a traffic violation and said one of their K-9’s alerted them to illegal drugs in the vehicle. During the stop, troopers found 94 one-pound packages of illegal marijuana.

The driver, 63-year-old Frederick Diehl of El Portal, Florida, was arrested and taken to the Conway County Detention Center. Diehl is facing charges of possession with the purpose to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving left of center.

In total between the three stops, troopers seized approximately 194 pounds of illegal marijuana.
