College Football News: Gonzaga 82, Arkansas 72

Pete Fiutak writes: "Arkansas has to keep this in the 60s to mid-70s, and Gonzaga has a way of taking a wrecking ball to a team’s plans. The biggest issue will be Gonzaga’s ability to hit everything inside once it gets Drew Timme and Chet Holmgren into a groove. Arkansas is 1-6 when teams to hit 46% or better from the field against this D. Gonzaga has only made fewer than 46% of its shots four times."

Fansided: Go with the under in the first half

Reed Wallach writes: "My initial lean is to Arkansas, who can match the Gonzaga up-tempo attack with both teams placing gin the top 30 in adjusted tempo per KenPom, but I'm nervous about the Razorbacks shooting woes. The team is outside the top 300 in 3-point percentage this season and will need to find ways to generate points outside the paint against Gonzaga's vaunted interior defense that is third in the country defending the rim, per Haslemetrics. The Razorbacks have beaten elite competition over the last two months, including Kentucky and Auburn, but Gonzaga may have too much fire power for them. With that being said, I'm going to lean towards the under for now. The Hogs are top 60 in the country in generating turnovers and have the on ball chops to match with Andrew Nembhard on the perimeter. The real question is if the Razorbacks can hang with Drew Timme and Chet Holmgren down low. I'm going to side with a slow start in this one given the fact that Arkansas isn't as explosive on offense but has the defense to hang early. The Zags will flirt with a big point total but I think we see a defensive struggle early."

Top Bet: Gonzaga 80, Arkansas 70

It writes: "Gonzaga got a scare in the second round, as it battled back from a 10-point halftime deficit to score an 82-78 win over Penny Hardaway and the Memphis Tigers Saturday night. Fortunately for the Zags, they have Drew Timme and Andrew Nembhard to save the day. Timme finished with 25 points and 14 rebounds, while Nembhard had 23 points on the strength of 5/10 shooting from behind the arc. Meanwhile, Chet Holmgren scored just nine points but held his own defensively with four blocks. The speed that Gonzaga played in the second half was incredible to watch and how the Bulldogs were able to sustain that pace even with Holmgren and Timme on the floor was a huge flashing warning sign to anyone who’s going to meet them. The Bulldogs own the best offense in the nation with 122.2 points per 100 possessions and that’s with a fifth-ranked tempo (72.4 possessions per 40 minutes)."

Sports Chat Place: Take Gonzaga to cover vs. Arkansas

Andrew Jett writes: "I’m probably going to stick with Gonzaga but staying away. The Bulldogs weren’t exactly dominant against a tricky Memphis team on Saturday. Gonzaga was out-rebounded 38-40, however they were able to hit 51.7 percent of their shots with 18 team assists. It wasn’t the Bulldogs’ greatest effort, but they pulled through. As for Arkansas, they’ve gotten past a couple of tricky teams in the first two rounds themselves with wins over Vermont and New Mexico State. The Razorbacks can generally score pretty well this year, so Gonzaga is going to need to step on the gas quickly here. I think the Bulldogs can do it."
