The Texas Texas football team enjoyed some extra fireworks of a different kind on the Fourth of July.

Arlington Bowie’s Kelby Valsin, a Class of 2023 prospect, announced his commitment via social media Monday to play for the Red Raiders.

Last season, Valsin made 49 catches for 831 yards and eight touchdowns en route to earning first team all-district wideout honors. He also garnered District 8-6A first-team all district accolades in basketball.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound three-star athlete had 24 scholarship offers, according to 247Sports.

He chose Texas Tech over Washington, TCU, Stanford and Boston College among other reported schools. Kelby Valsin’s brother, Jimmy, plays for Oregon State — signing as part of its 2021 class.

On June 28, Woodville defensive tackle Braylon Rigsby, the defensive lineman of the year in District 10-3A Division I last season, made an oral commitment to the Red Raiders.

Rigsby's high-school team lists him as 6-foot-3 and 280 pounds. He was credited last season with 61 tackles, including 15 tackles for loss and three sacks, according to 247Sports.

At the beginning of last week, Marquez "Macho" Stevenson, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound sprinter from Shreveport (La.) Captain Shreve, verbally committed to the Red Raiders. In his announcement, Stevenson said he will be competing for the football and track teams.

Playing for a 10-2 team last season, Stevenson caught nine passes for 262 yards and five touchdowns in nine games. The Red Raiders are recruiting him as a cornerback prospect.

Texas Tech has verbal commitments from 23 prospects for its recruiting class, players who can sign in mid-December or early February.
