Arlington Heights Marine's last wish for Iwo Jima flag raising honored

Before Elwood "Woody" Hughes died on Feb. 1, he requested a flag raising to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the battle of Iwo Jima.

- A veteran's last wish was honored today before Elwood Woody Hughes died earlier this month. He requested a flag raising to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima. Hughes was one of the last living Chicago area veterans to witness that raising of the American flag. He spent his final years educating people on the battle.

EMILY HUGHES: He decided that he needed to make that his mission, to get the word out. So he's done that until his dying day.

- Veteran organizations across Chicago also raising the flag today. Hughes was 95 years old.
