Armadillo Christmas Bazaar, Blue Genie Art Bazaar return in December: How to go

For the first time since 2019, the Armadilo Christmas Bazaar will return to its traditional setup inside Palmer Events Center, with dozens of merchant booths featuring arts and crafts-oriented gift items plus live music from Austin musicians. Performers include Ray Wylie Hubbard, Ruthie Foster, Marcia Ball, Tomar & the FCs, Kelly Willis and Sir Woman.

The weeklong event, Dec. 17-23, is shortened a bit from its pre-pandemic 12-day run. But it's a big step up from 2020, when there was an online-only store, and 2021, which was a three-day outdoor affair on the plaza and lawn outside Palmer Events Center.

Tickets, $12 daily or $47 for a seven-day pass, are on sale now at armadillobazaar.com.

The bazaar began in the 1970s at Armadillo World Headquarters. After the Armadillo closed in 1980, the bazaar moved to a series of other locations, including Austin Music Hall and the Austin Convention Center, before settling at Palmer Events Center around a decade ago.

Also on the local holiday front: The 22nd annual Blue Genie Art Bazaar will sell works from more than 200 regional artists from Nov. 18-Dec. 24 in its building at 6100 Airport Blvd. Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with a 6 p.m. closing time on Christmas Eve.
