The Armed Forces of Ukraine have likely finished the encirclement of the Russian grouping near Lyman in the Donetsk Oblast on the evening of 29 September. According to some reports, the Ukrainian forces will be able to liberate the city if Russians don’t get any reinforcements.

Quote: "It is likely that the Ukrainian troops have almost finished the process of encirclement of the Russian grouping in Lyman and cut critical landlines (GLOCs) that support Russian forces in the Drobysheve-Lyman district ".

Details: According to Russian sources the ISW refers to, the Ukrainian forces broke the defence line near the village of Stavky 10 km to the North from Lyman and cut the Torske-Drobysheve road, which was the last supply and movement route of the occupiers who hold the line to the west from Lyman. It is likely that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are attacking Lyman from three axes. The Ukrainian forces have cut the access to the critical road Svatove-Lyman, which is the main communication landline (GLOC) that supports the Russian grouping in Lyman.

As reported by Russian war correspondents that ISW refers to, the situation is "extremely hard" for the BARS-13 unit and 752nd Guards Motor Rifle Regiment of the 20th General Army that are holding the defence line near Drobysheve and in Lyman.

The ISW reports that if Russian forces don’t get immediate reinforcement, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to take Lyman.

Denis Pushilin, the head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, confirmed this information.

Quote: "Friends, there is worrying news concerning Lyman…At the moment Lyman is in partial encirclement…We don’t fully control Yampil and Drobysheve. The news is very unpleasant…"

Note: The ISW remarked that the encirclement of Lyman is not shown on the maps because the report about the situation on the front came in too late. All verified and updated information will be shown on the ISW maps as of 30 September.
