Armed men take safe from store in robbery near Tower District, Fresno police say

Four men robbed a market near the Tower District on Wednesday morning, causing injuries to the woman opening the store, police said.

The woman was unlocking the door to Sunrise Market and Liquor on McKinley and Fruit avenues at about 7:30 a.m. when two men pushed her into the store and onto the floor, Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega said.

They held her down as two more men entered the store and carried out the safe, loading it into a dark SUV, police said. At least one of the men had a handgun.

The four suspects left in the SUV carrying the safe south on Fruit, police said.

The woman had an injury to her knee that police described as minor and she refused medical assistance, Trueba Vega said.
