Armed robbery suspect arrested at student dormitory on UW-Whitewater’s campus

WHITEWATER, Wis. (WFRV) – A 19-year-old man was arrested at a student dormitory on UW-Whitewater’s campus Tuesday night after allegedly robbing a BP Gas Station.

According to the Whitewater Police Department, officers received a report of an armed robbery at the BP Gas Station on the 1100 block of West Main Street in the city of Whitewater shortly after 9:00 p.m.

Preliminary investigations reveal that a 19-year-old suspect entered the gas station and displayed a replica firearm. The male suspect demanded a pack of cigars, left the gas station, and fled in a vehicle.

Officers located the suspect at Knilans Hall on the UW-Whitewater campus shortly before 10:15 p.m. and he was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect was taken to the Walworth County Jail, and police say they’ll be referring charges of armed robbery and disorderly conduct to the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office.

This is the second time within the last month that Knilans Hall has been in the news. Back in January, a group of individuals were chanting racist words and displaying anti-Semitic symbols outside the residence hall.

Authorities are continuing to investigate this armed robbery incident, and no additional details were provided. Local 5 News will provide an update when authorities identify the 19-year-old suspect.
