Armed subject in West Bremerton had carjacked couple, fired shots at police

The Kitsap County Sheriff's Office on Sunday evening detained a suspect after an afternoon pursuit and standoff at a home in West Bremerton, in which officers fired shots. No one was injured, according to KCSO.

Law enforcement and a SWAT team contained the armed suspect at a home at Harlow Drive near Sunnyhill Road, where the suspect was barricaded inside. The suspect attempted to flee the home in a vehicle and was caught. In addition, the home caught fire and fire crews responded.

According to a press release from the Washington State Patrol, the subject, fleeing the Harlow Drive address, crashed a vehicle in the area of Price Road Northwest in Bremerton at about 6:30 p.m.. Shots were fired by KCSO personnel, according to the State Patrol.

The number of officers involved and the number of shots fired was under investigation, according to a press release issued early Monday by Washington State Patrol.

The suspect inside a home had fired shots at random during the standoff, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office. The suspect was sought after shooting at officers during a stop on Austin Drive sometime before 3 p.m. Law enforcement had pursued the individual suspected of armed robbery. After fleeing from police at Austin Drive, the suspect proceeded to steal a car from a couple at gunpoint, according to KCSO.

The Austin Drive overpass was closed for several hours, according to a Facebook post from the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office.

Once the suspect was in custody, he was cleared at a local hospital before being booked at the Kitsap County Jail, according to the sheriff's office.
