SAULT STE. MARIE — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District will host an in-person public meeting at 6 p.m. on March 15 to follow-up on the closure of the Soo Locks Hydro Plant tail race during New Lock at the Soo construction.

According to the Corps of Engineers, they have a preliminary closure plan for the upcoming season and would like to present the strategy for the 2023 construction season to ensure effective communication of closures with anglers and interested parties.

Officials previously hosted a public meeting to discuss the Hydro Plant tail race closures last April.

“The tail race is and has been a very popular community fishing spot,” said Mick Awbrey, chief integrated project office. “The Corps of Engineers' goal during New Lock at the Soo construction is to minimize effects to the community while maintaining safe unimpeded marine-based construction access.”

The in-person meeting will take place at the Lake Superior State University Walker Cisler Center in the Crow’s Nest room. An LSSU parking pass will not be needed.
