Around 90 migrants rescued off Canary Islands

Around ninety migrants were rescued off the Canary Islands on Wednesday (November 27).

Spanish emergency teams found three boats near the coast of Gran Canaria.

Among those rescued: six pregnant women and eight babies, according to a Spanish Red Cross official.

At least four people will be taken to medical centres.

There was no immediate information on their nationalities.

The number of migrants attempting to flee to Europe have plummeted since 2015, but thousands still attempt the dangerous journey.

Over a thousand migrants have already died or have gone missing at sea this year.
