It required a place like Stillwater for the Bartlesville High softball team to find enough dry ground to get in a game Tuesday.

After being rained out Monday at home, the water-logged Lady Bruins boarded the bus for the city of red dirt music to take on the Lady Pioneers in a diamond district clash.

Stillwater stirred its attack just enough to edge past the gritty Lady Bruins, 4-1.

Following are summaries of this game and a look at other area softball teams as they head into September.

STILLWATER 4, BARTLESVILLE 1: Chloe Robbins and Emerson Casey helped elevate Bartlesville High’s softball squad to an early lead Tuesday at Stillwater High.

But, Stillwater players possessed a stubborn streak that turned the tide.

The loss ended Bartlesville’s two-game winning streak, the Lady Bruins still own winning records overall (7-6) and in district (3-2).

Robbins led off the game with a hit and came around to score, thanks partly to Casey, who finished 2-for-3 at the plate, to put Bartlesville up, 1-0, in the top of the first.

But, Bartlesville’s scoring deficiency the rest of the way kept the door open for Stillwater to rally and win.

C. Calle blasted a homer and drove in three runs in the game to fuel the Stillwater attack.

Robbins, Casey and Lexi Durao-West delivered the lone hits for Bartlesville.

Durao-West also turned in a solid performance in the circle, scattering 10 hits while giving up only one walk and striking out three. She and her defense left seven Stillwater runners stranded.

Next up, Bartlesville is set to play this weekend in the Oologah tourney.

Note: Casey is 9-for-11 (.818) at the plate in the last three games.

BARNSDALL 5,, SOUTH COFFEYVILLE 2: The Barnsdall Lady Panthers ended a busy, busy August on a winning note.

They played 17 games in 23 days while carving out a winning (9-8) record.

Barnsdall improved to 8-0 when giving up five-or-fewer runs. They are set to play host Thursday to Shidler in the first season meeting between the teams.

——

CHELSEA 8, CANEY VALLEY 4: Even though they lost, Caney Valley still finished August in decent shape with a 6-7 record, including a 3-3 district mark.

The Lady Trojans split with Chelsea in district meetings.

One shouldn’t draw too quick of a decision from Tuesday’s final. Chelsea burrowed out to a 7-0 lead in the first three innings, but the Lady Trojans displayed plenty of fight the rest of the way.

Caney Valley’s offense didn’t lack for power — six extra-base hits, including two doubles by Myah Edwards, a double each by Kensly Foreman and Addi Lakey, and a triple apiece by Addi Lakey and Libby Thompson.

Lakey drove in two runs, one of them on a sacrifice fly; Edwards went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Other than walks allowed (nine), Mackenzie McCabe pitched strong against Chelsea. She allowed eight hits and struck out two.

DEWEY: The Lady Doggers (2-12) have had better Augusts in recent years. But, considering a major lineup shuffle from last season and a grueling, rugged gauntlet that has included three 6A opponents (Dewey plays in 3A), two 5A foes and two 4A opponents, the Lady Doggers have taken the concept of baptism under fire to a new notion.

That’s seven of 14 opponents from bigger classes.Despite absorbing more than their shares of lumps, the Lady Doggers have been far more competitive — and improving — than their record indicates.

After beginning the season at 0-9, Dewey is 2-3 in its last five games. Beyond that, many of their scores reflect a battling team. They have competed in seven games decided by four-or-fewer runs, including a pair of two-runs losses and one decided by a single tally.

Dewey is set to snap back into action Thursday by hosting Collinsville at 1 p.m.

NOWATA: The Lady Ironmen (11-4) have been the surprise team of the area. They are the first to reach double-digit wins and have captured a tournament title (Copan). Led by first-year head coach Thad Hewitt, Nowata is 7-1 in its last eight games. Next up, Nowata is scheduled to travel Thursday to Fairland.

OTHERS: An updated record isn’t available for Copan, but the Lady Hornets have displayed plenty of stretches of strong play. Next up, they snap back into action next Tuesday at Bluejaclet.

Oklahoma Union (3-12) endured a tougher-than-usual August, including a five-game losing streak coming out of the month. The Lady Cougars will be focused on a better September as they are scheduled to travel to Chelsea.

Pawhuska’s record stands at 6-4 overall and 3-3 in district. In their most recent games, the Lady Huskies edged Cashion and fell in one-sided result to Morrison. Next up, they are scheduled to play Friday at Olive.
