Around Charlestown: Annual Summer Festival is Aug. 6 at the township park

I hope you all are planning to attend the Charlestown Summer Festival on Saturday, Aug. 6 at the township park.

It begins at 3 and ends at 7 p.m.. The Activity Committee has been working hard to plan a fun and affordable family event for the community with free admission. Free events and activities include Outback Ray and his Amazing Animals, so be sure to have the kids there by 3:45 p.m. Then we have Scenic Route, a local pop/rock band at 5 p.m. I saw them at Main Street Winery in Ravenna and they are great!

Also free for the kiddos, we have Pipolo the Balloon Bender making a return visit and a face painter. Bill Starcher will be there with a display of his amazing art.

The Charlestown Fire Department will again have the fire house, where kids can put out a "fire" with a real fire hose. While we no longer host the car show due to lack of volunteers we will have a Shine and Show. (Would this be a good time to ask for volunteers to help us plan our community events?) Just clean up your pride and joy car, motorcycle, tractor, etc. and show up and we will give you a spot to display it.

We will again have food trucks including The Weiner Guy, Fat Papi's, Curby's Custard and Jo's Kettle Korn. All ages can enjoy the inflatables and the Eurobungy for a small fee of $1 per ticket or purchase a wristband for only $5 for unlimited access.

Visit the township tent and purchase a raffle ticket for only $5 each for the grand prize entertainment basket with a value of at least $400. Also we will have many great Chinese auction baskets. While there, pick up a list of township officials, website addresses and Facebook accounts and give us your email for Charlestown Happenings, our township newsletter for township information.

Please spread the news about this fun event! Seriously, if you are interested in helping organize the community events please contact me at the email address below.

Church welcomes Pastor Frank Zugaro

Charlestown United Methodist Church recently said good-bye to Pastor Greg Hogan and welcomed Pastor Frank Zugaro.

Pastor Frank's first Sunday was July 2 and we invite you to drop in any Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. to meet him. The church will also have a booth at the festival so stop by to say "Hi" and get some freebies. Did you know that the church has a large community room available to rent for showers, reunions, birthday parties etc.? Call or text me at the number below for information.

Township residents celebrate weddings

Summer 2022 has been exciting for several Charlestown young ladies. Two said "I do," one finally got to celebrate her marriage of 2021 and one will be saying "I do" in a few short months.

Libby Noland and Kyle Pruitt exchanged vows on June 18 in a lovely outdoor setting. The reception was in a beautifully decorated rustic barn. Libby is a lovely girl and the beloved babysitter of my three grandchildren who participated in the wedding. Sophie Ruggles was the flower girl and Duke and Hank Ruggles were "ring security." Libby is the daughter of Ed and Lisa Noland and Kyle's parents are Scott and Tiffany Pruitt.

Christen Webb became the wife of Nicholas Pritt on July 2. Their wedding was held in a chapel on a beautiful working farm with the reception in a barn also on the property. The wedding was perfect and Christen's sister, Lindsey, was her matron of honor. Their mother said Linsey was more nervous for her sister's wedding then she was for her own! Oh yes, and my daughter, Erin Ruggles, used to babysit the Webb sisters. Christen's parents are Chris and Janeen Webb and Nicholas's parents are Steve and Cindy Pritt.

Amber (Dailey) and Travis Adkins were married last spring in a small ceremony in the midst of the pandemic. They finally got to celebrate with a "Happily Ever After" party at the home of her mom and step-father. Along with all the food and fun, guests could enjoy cotton candy, have their caricature drawn, play in a bounce house or ride a bucking bull. Now that's a party! Amber's parents are J. Michael and Jennifer Smith and Tom and Heather Dailey and Travis's parents are David and Tammy Adkins.

Kara Spicer's big day is Oct. 15 with her shower coming up July 30. Kara is a big Disney fan. Recently, her sister, Alyssa, treated Kara to a trip to Disney World along with her and their mother. Awesome sister! Another side note, Kara and Alyssa participated in my daughter, Erin and Joe Ruggles's wedding 16 years ago. Kara will be marrying Justin Nelson. Kara's parents are Ron and Joyce Spicer and Justin's parents are Chadwick and Judy Nelson.

Congratulations to all of these wonderful newly weds and best wishes for a happy life together!
