Around Mogadore: Car show planned for Sept. 18 at Mogadore High School

Are you and your family often looking for something to do on Sunday afternoons? How about going to a car show?

On Sunday, Sept. 18 from 3 to 7:p.m., a car show will be held at the Mogadore High School parking lot. The event is free to those who want to look at the unique cars that will be lined up in the parking lot.

For those drivers who are bringing their cars for displays, there is a $10 entry fee. Cruisers will also receive one free raffle ticket for great prizes. From 2 to 3 p.m. ,drivers will line up at the entrance on Curtis Street to avoid traffic congestion on South Cleveland Ave. (Route 532). There will be signage for directions for cruiser parking.

Judges will pick three winners. Prizes will be given in the following categories: Kids’ Choice, People’s Choice and Mayor’s Choice.

There will also be signs for public parking. After you’ve parked, walk to the high school parking lot and look at the cars.

DJ Tom Rosato, a Mogadore graduate and a junior high football coach, will provide the music for the event.

You won’t go hungry, either. There will be hot dogs, chili and sausage sandwiches. The star chef is Joe Adolph, a long-time Mogadore resident. A combo meal of a hot dog, chips, cookie and drink will be available. For an icy cold dessert, Katie’s Korner will be setting up an ice cream booth.

In addition, there will be children’s activities sponsored by Community Life Church. Kids can get bubbles, draw with chalk and play corn hole. Other activities will be provided.

50-50 raffle will feature Browns, RubberDucks, McDonald's and wine

Of course, there will be a 50-50 raffle, but there will also be basket raffles and prizes available. There are several Cleveland Browns baskets, a wine basket, an Akron RubberDucks basket, McDonald’s basket, camping basket and a Pioneer Woman basket, to name a few.

Area businesses have contributed to this event, including Adorni’s Service Center, Akron RubberDucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Duma Meats, Farmer Boy Restaurant, Hungry Howie’s, Hydro-Shine Car Wash, Jon Mencer, Katie’s Korner Ice Cream, McDonald’s, Mogadore Eye Care, NAPA Auto Parts, OH Somers PTSO, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Roma Pizzeria II and Wildcat Cafe, Synthomer and Uncle Tito’s Mexican Grill.

A big thank you goes out to individual donors to the show: Julie Owens, Brenda Montella, Debbie Gandee, Krista and Joe Adolph, Steve Broderick, Larry Fitting, Vince Rosnack, and Rodger Sansom. The support is appreciated.

Sponsored by the Mogadore Historical Society, the proceeds from the car show will benefit the community, especially if this event becomes an annual fall occasion. Krista Adolph has been researching the acquisition of a caboose for the Mogadore Historical Society, and the proceeds of an annual car show will help offset the cost of a caboose and its moving expenses.

Co-Chairpersons Krista Adolph and Brenda Montella have been organizing the car show since the beginning of the year. They have been visiting other car shows in the area, handing out flyers for the Mogadore car show and observing successful shows.

Brenda recalled passing out flyers to the veterans at a car show in Suffield and how the vets were so proud of their vehicles. Brenda said her father had many cars: Fords, Chevys, a VW and an MG, of which he was proud. He passed his love of cars to his daughter. Krista recalled attending car shows with her father. He’d park his motorcycle in a long line of bikes.

Krista owned a small motorcycle as well, and, smiling, reminisced about the line of large motorcycles next to her tiny cycle.

If you’re interested in entering your vehicle in the show, please see the attached flyer in this article.

Check out the Mogadore Historical Society’s Facebook Page where you can print out the flyer and bring it to the show on Sept. 18. We hope to see you there!
