Around Town: Hendersonville High offering tours; Bounty of Bethlehem plans in the works

With the renovation of Hendersonville High School complete and with the first day of school for students on Aug. 29, the school is ready to host tours to show the public all of the new additions on campus.

Two public tours are scheduled, with the first at 10 a.m. Aug. 16 and the second at 2 p.m. Aug. 18. Both tours will depart from the main office.

A ribbon cutting was held Aug. 3 to celebrate all of the renovations to the school that has been eight years in the works. Construction began four years ago and was completed 11 months ahead of schedule.

Bounty of Bethlehem Team to hold volunteer meeting

The Bounty of Bethlehem Team at the Salvation Army in Hendersonville will be holding a meeting from 6-7 p.m. Aug. 24 to plan for the 39th annual Bounty of Bethlehem Community Christmas Dinner. The goal of the meeting is to recruit as many volunteer leaders as possible, according to a press release.

Tryon's Summer Tracks concludes Aug. 19 with Maya de Vitry

For Summer Tracks’ sixth and final concert this season on Friday Aug. 19, Maya de Vitry returns with a new band and new songs, according to a press release.

Pennsylvania-raised and Tennessee based, de Vitry first appeared on the music scene in 2012 with The Stray Birds. After hundreds of performances and several acclaimed albums, she struck out on her own with 2019’s Adaptations and 2020’s How to Break a Fall.

Her latest release, 2022’s Violet Light, takes a deep dive into the unrelenting human desire to belong to a home, an environment and each other, the release said. In addition to writing, recording and touring with her band, de Vitry collaborates with other artists as a writer, multi-instrumentalist and producer. De Vitry's band features Joel Timmons (guitars, vocals), Charlie Muench (bass, vocals) and Jason Burger (drums, vocals).

New View Realty of Tryon is the presenting sponsor for this 23rd season of Summer Tracks. The Purple Onion and Heartwood Gallery of Saluda are the co-sponsors for this concert.

All shows begin at 7 p.m. In case of rain, the concerts will move across the street inside the Tryon Fire Dept. Katie D’s N.Y. Bagels & Deli will be selling a variety of slider sandwiches, hot dogs, wraps, chips and desserts. Water and soft drinks will be for sale. Alcohol consumption is allowed in the park but is not for sale.

Summer Tracks concerts are supported by donations at the gate, along with sponsorships by local businesses and individuals. A full schedule including performers bios and photos can be found at www.summertracks.com.

Behind the Brush event to be held this weekend

Art MoB Studios and Marketplace invites the public to come to “Behind the Brush” from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 13-14. At this event, people watch the signature styles of five resident artists while they create and hear the stories behind their works, according to a press release.

Mediums demonstrated include pottery, watercolors, mixed media and acrylics. These unique, 30-minute demonstration sessions will be offered throughout the weekend with a rotating schedule of artists.
