Around Town: Locals explore rocks, gems and minerals at annual show in Holland

HOLLAND — The region's annual gem and mineral show brought together students, hobbyists and intellectuals of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate nature's beauty.

Guests enjoyed a weekend of shopping, learning and rock-hounding fun at the Tulip City Gem and Mineral Club's annual show Friday-Sunday, Sept. 16-18, at the Soccer Stop Complex in Holland. This year's theme was Earth's Antiques.

Friday morning, classes from several local elementary schools visited the show and explored special "education stations" focused on Michigan's sand, beachstones and magnetic rocks. Those stations were replaced by the show's marketplace later Friday, where guests could purchase items collected by members.
