Around Town: A Taste of the Vineyard set; Rhythm & Brews continues; Robinson headlines rally
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Henderson County’s A Taste of the Vineyard will be held on Thursday, Oct. 6 at Point Lookout Vineyards, 408 Appleola Rd. in Hendersonville.
Participants will be able to drink local wines and take in the scenic mountain views in an evening that benefits the children of Henderson County, according to a press release. All proceeds go toward Big Brothers Big Sisters of Henderson County’s mentoring programs.
The evening begins at 6 p.m. and features food by Amanda’s Catering and a complimentary first glass of wine. A cash bar is available throughout the event. Entertainment will be provided by Granny’s Mason Jar. A silent auction features getaway vacations, art, services and much more. The auction is now live online and will be closed at the event at 8 p.m.
“Please help support our mission of igniting the power and promise in youth by participating in our event through attending the event, bidding on auction items, or sponsoring the event” said Erin Erickson, program coordinator of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Henderson County. “The money raised enables us to ‘ignite potential’ in the 85 young people we serve.”

Rhythm and Brews continues Thursday
The 2022 Rhythm & Brews Concert Series will continue Thursday, Aug. 18 with contemporary roots musician Alexa Rose and local folk singer/songwriter Aaron Burdett, according to a press release.
The concert is free and takes place on the third Thursday of each month from May through September on the south end of Main Street, closing off the blocks between Allen and Caswell streets. Aaron Burdett will start the show at 5:30 p.m. followed by Alexa Rose, who will play from 7:30 until about 9:30 p.m.
The 2022 Rhythm & Brews Concert Series is presented by Horizon Heating & Air Conditioning. For the youngest in the family, the Hands On! Kid Zone will provide kid-friendly activities. Meanwhile, adults can enjoy downtown Hendersonville’s first fully-integrated beer and wine garden featuring locally crafted drinks from Sierra Nevada, Guidon Brewing Co., Oklawaha Brewing Co., Dry Falls Brewery, Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards, Flat Rock Cider Company and Bold Rock Hard Cider. Food will be available for purchase from local food trucks.
Movie 'Encanto' to be shown at Bill Moore Community Park
The town of Fletcher Parks and Recreation will be showing the Movie “Encanto” at 8:45 p.m. Friday at Bill Moore Community Park.

Lt. Gov. Robinson headlines Faith, Family, Freedom Rally
PISGAH FOREST — Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson will be the featured speaker at a Faith, Family, and Freedom Rally at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at Anchor Baptist Church, located at 3232 Hendersonville Highway.
Robinson's appearance will be the grand finale of the Faith, Family, and Freedom Festival beginning at 1 p.m., according to a press release. The afternoon will include an exhibition from the Henderson County K9 Unit, Riding on Faith Rodeo Drill Team, live gospel music, Inflatables, historical reenactors, vendor/church booths and free food.
"In the political climate of today, it’s encouraging to have a man of Character and Conviction as our Lieutenant Governor. Mark Robinson unapologetically stands strong and fights for Faith, Family and Freedom and it’s our great honor to welcome him to Western North Carolina." Anchor Baptist Pastor Randy Barton said.
This free event will happen rain or shine. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or a blanket. Overflow parking will be available at several locations along Old Hendersonville Highway and shuttles will be running. Handicap parking is designated at the Anchor Baptist Warehouse, 5317 Old Hendersonville Highway. Those with handicap parking passes are asked to enter from old U.S. 64, as the campus will be closed for through traffic.
League of Women Voters plans Ice Cream Social
The League of Women Voters of Henderson County will be holding an Apple Pie and Ice Cream Social from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 at the Henderson Community Cooperative, according to a press release. The event will kick off its new programs this year and will be an opportunity to meet and socialize while learning about what the women do and the various ways to get involved in the Henderson County League.
The event is free and open to the public, and participants are asked to park behind the Self-Help Credit Union next door to the Co-op.
Brandy Bar's Songwriter Sessions continues
The Brandy Bar in downtown Hendersonville will continue its Songwriter Sessions from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday with three local artists: Hope Griffin, George Hodges and Chris Wilhelm.
According to a press release, Griffin is known for her free spirited stage presence, velvety vocals and heart-wrenching ballads, all rendered behind her acoustic guitar playing.
Hodges is a singer/songwriter currently residing in Etowah and his songs are reflections of his experiences and thoughts on life, expressed mainly through the intimacy of solo acoustic and vocal.
Wilhelm is based in tAsheville and is known for bringing positive vibes and an uplifting message to his audience through his infectious and insightful through his Americana and folk rock compositions.
Hosts are Mare Carmody, John Longbottom and Charlie Wilkinson.
