This Around The World In 80 Days Airbnb Trip Takes You To 18 Countries And Six Continents
If you've never read Around The World In 80 Days, the classic adventure novel published way back in 1873, the premise goes something like this: Phileas Fogg, a rich Englishman living in London, accepts a bet to attempt to travel around the globe in, yep, you guessed it, a little under three months. If he makes it, he'll win £20,000, equal to about £1.6 million or $1.5 million today.
While there's no grand prize at the end, you too can trek around the globe on a Fogg-inspired journey. As a kick-off to Airbnb Adventure, the travel company is hosting a recreation of sorts, bringing eight guests to 18 countries across six continents this fall, all for less than $5,000 plus the cost of flights to and from London.
From September 1 to November 19, travelers will make their way through an impressive list of countries: the UK, Romania, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Jordan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, China, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the USA, Ecuador, Chile, and Iceland. Lodging, meals, and transportation-which ranges from planes to trains, boats, helicopters, cars, and hot air balloon-are included in the trip fare, as are activities.
You'll go on an African Safari, wander through Bangkok, white water raft, and glacier-walk through Patagonia...it's definitely a trip for the adventurous and active. Plus, you'll get to eat a TON of great food: sushi in Japan, fish and chips in the U.K., asado in Chile. I'm already jealous of the eight lucky guests who snag a spot on this trip.
Reservations open Thursday, June 20 on Airbnb's website; the 80-day trip is listed at $4,987 per person. Some of the proceeds from the experience will go to the Malala Fund, an organization that raises money to provide girls access to a safe, quality education.
