GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — A GJPD drug bust led to a SWAT standoff and another unrelated arrest.

On August 28, Grand Junction Police Department Officer Lopez was patrolling the Lucky Charm, a local skilled gaming establishment. According to an arrest affidavit, Officer Lopez noticed several people approach a parked Toyota Carolla in the parking lot. According to the officer, three different individuals approached the car, each person doing so multiple times. The officer noticed everyone left the vehicle within a matter of a few seconds and had short conversations with the people inside the Corolla.

Officers contacted Phaedra Finessey, one of the people who approached the car, and arrested her on a warrant. During a search, officers found a substance consistent with methamphetamine and associated paraphernalia.

Officers then approached the Corolla and identified the driver as Steven Moore. A GJPD K9 alerted officers to the possibility of illicit drugs in the vehicle and carried out a probable cause search. Officers discovered a large amount unused baggies, a digital scale, hypodermic needles and a white crystalized substance officers believed to be methamphetamine, leading officers to believe Moore was selling and packaging methamphetamine.

Moore and Finessey were arrested and booked in the Mesa County Detention Center.

During the commotion, officers recognized a man with a felony arrest warrant, Shane Barnett, enter the business. Officers attempted to contact Barnett, but the door was locked. Barnett refused to cooperate with officers until a GJPD SWAT team arrived at the scene. Barnett surrendered and officers booked him in the Mesa County Detention Center on an active warrant.
