Arrest made in 2022 homicide of Weinland Park civic leader's son
Columbus police arrested a 23-year-old man Thursday in connection with the June 2022 shooting death of the son of the president of the Weinland Park Civic Association.
Michael Dickerson II, of the Southeast Side, was arrested without incident by a SWAT team after being charged earlier this month by a Franklin County grand jury with aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence.
All of the charges are related to the June 28, 2022, homicide of 22-year-old Joshua Jones. Columbus police said Jones was shot while in his car delivering pasta he made and sold while in the neighborhood. Jones' mother, Tanya Long, is president of the Weinland Park Civic Association.
Around 8:10 p.m. June 28, Jones was found inside his vehicle, which had crashed into a house in the area of East 7th and Indianola avenues. The initial investigation, police said, showed that Jones had been approached while in his vehicle by two men.
During a confrontation, gunshots were fired. Police said Jones had attempted to flee but crashed his vehicle into the side of the home. He was rushed to an area hospital but died from his injuries the next morning.
Jones had played football for Eastmoor Academy and Marion Franklin High School. After graduating from Marion Franklin, he worked in various jobs while starting a hip-hop music career. Jones was known musically as "Only1Juug" and later earned success with his "Rasta Pasta" dish, which is what he was delivering at the time he was killed.
Dickerson is currently being held in the Franklin County jail. No date has been set for his first court appearance.
No other arrests have been made in the case.
