Captain Henry Morgan, a Welsh buccaneer who operated in the Caribbean during the 17th century, has been dead since 1688.

So why was his name coming up on Internet searches for "Florida news" this week?

The answer is because a life-size statue of Captain Morgan used to promote the popular Captain Morgan brand of flavored rums was stolen from outside a liquor store in Englewood, Florida. In Charlotte County, where Englewood is located, the sheriff's office stepped up its game with a Facebook post on June 8 asking for assistance in locating the statue.

You could say they put out an A.P.B (All Points Bulletin) on Captain Morgan.

The statue was stolen on May 19 from Beachcomber Liquors, according to the sheriff's Facebook post. They also posted a video of the crime happening, showing the suspect removing Captain Morgan, placing it in the bed of a blue, two-door pickup truck. To make matters a little more interesting, a dog can be seen sitting in the truck.

The sheriff's social media team had some fun with the Facebook post, sprinkling in "pirate talk" throughout.

If ye have any information that can help send him to Sheriff Prummell's locker or help give us "a leg up" in this investigation, call our non-emergency number (941) 639-2101, send a message through Facebook, or submit a tip via our free mobile app.

People commenting in the post's thread also had some fun saying, if caught the thief should "walk the plank" and "I guess he wanted to sail with the captain." Someone else remarked: "Can't blame him, I've always wanted one of those, just not to the point of stealing it."

According to different reports the statue is about six feet tall and said it sells for about $2,500 to $3,000 online.
