Art at 43023 hosts December reception for local artists

The December reception at Granville's Art at 43023 will be held Friday, Dec. 3 from 6-8 p.m. Many of the 18 artists will be present to discuss their work. There will be live music by Stephen K. Smith and refreshments.

Featured artists for December include jewelry designers Kim Downs and Ben Jordan, the mitten lady Julie Pavalko, and Granville painter Spencer Pearson.

Downs grew up in Granville and continues to enjoy living in the community. She has indulged her creative side in whatever job she has held, including owning a local floral business and various other ventures. She returns this month with her jewelry design using beads, wire, chain and natural objects to craft one of a kind beautiful earrings, bracelets and necklaces.

Jordan, (Jordanica), creates jewelry pieces out of copper, brass and sterling silver. Many of his designs are made with etched textures, photographic techniques, and collages, which are layered with his own drawings. He finishes his pieces with a variety of patinas, which highlight the design. He exhibits his jewelry at many local art shows and galleries.

Pearson's beautiful paintings of landscape and local scenes will continue to be shown in the gallery through December. He paints subjects that are simple but striking, with many of them being the rural landscapes around central Ohio. Pearson's focus on the canvas is "to produce true but painterly representations of the landscape while showcasing the wonderful light only nature can provide."

And finally, Art at 43023 will again feature Pavalko and her colorful mittens handmade from upcycled wool sweaters. Her mittens are one of a kind, unique expressions of her love for repurposed materials.

The gallery continues to display the works of painter Barbara Gottschling, a self-taught artist who lives between Jackson, Wyoming and Ohio with her husband Steve. Her work is influenced by the magnificent landscapes and wildlife of Wyoming and the rolling hills and farm fields of Ohio. Texture painting and shading make her paintings unique.

The gallery also features the work of 16 local artists working in a variety of different mediums. These include photographer Laura Atchison; jewelry designer Meg Ginther; ceramics by Colin Charles; kiln fired glass by Amy and Dylan Engler; woodworking by Joe Faulkner; blown glass by St. Louisville Glass; stained glass by Thom Wendt; glass and metal sculpture by Jason Antol; paintings by Lee Anne Faler, Jeff Watkins and Dana Grubbe; and prints by Vicki Spiegel, Kathy Anderson, Abby Longshore, Carrie and Michelle Boerio, and Rick Mock.

Art at 43023 will be open Saturday, Dec. 4, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. during the Christmas Candlelight Walking Tour.
