Art on the Alley’s Fall Family Fun event Oct. 16

NEW PHILADELPHIA − Art on the Alley will celebrate the second half of its fifth year in the community Oct. 16 in downtown New Philadelphia from noon to 5 p.m. with the event’s theme being Fall Family Fun.

It is presented by Tuscarawas Arts Partnership (TAP) and the Art on the Alley Committee.

Attendees can expect a wide variety of local arts and creative vendors set up to demonstrate, sell and exhibit their work. A number of downtown New Philadelphia businesses will be open during the festivities to add more stops.

Trick-or-treating will be offered to those who would like to take part at participating stores and vendors showcasing a pumpkin trick or treat sign, as well as a Costume Contest located on the South Stage at 3 p.m. Food trucks and restaurants will be open.

The Tuscarawas County Public Library System and local nonprofits will be providing arts and crafts activities for children. During the event, the library will have spider headband crafts for the kids to make, a stained-glass chalk mural that kids can color sections in on the sidewalk, games, bubbles and candy.

Music on the North, Mid and South Stages will begin at noon and last the duration of the event. At the North Stage, Smalls Smalley will be performing from noon to 1:45 p.m., followed by Fueled by Crown from 1:45 to 3:15 p.m. and closing out the stage with Randy Velez from 3:30 to 5 p.m. At the Mid Stage, student performances will take place during the noon to 5 p.m. On the South Stage, Zac Pirillo will open the performances noon to 1:30 p.m., followed by Skull Creek Howlers 1:45 to 3:30 p.m. and ending the day with Joe Warther from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

In order to celebrate the artists, creatives, businesses and other vendors, this year Art on the Alley will be holding a “Shop Local, Support Local” contest. Individuals can pick up a “Shop Local, Support Local” passport where each individual will be entered into a prize drawing for every $10 spent. After each individual completes their shopping as wanted, ‘passport’ drop-offs can be found at participating vendors and localbusinesses, with the winner chosen Oct. 22.
