'Cats' on prowl

Those slinking, arching, dancing felines will be back at Playhouse Square Nov. 1-20 with Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats," the musical based on T.S. Eliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats." See the show that premiered on Broadway in 1982, where it ran for 18 years, and returned to Broadway in 2016 with new sound design, direction and choreography.

Halloween 'Dracula' reading

Ohio Shakespeare Festival will present a live radio play reading of "Dracula," adapted by Joe Pine from the novel by Bram Stoker, at 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at Greystone Hall in downtown Akron, 103 S. High St. Tickets cost $15, which includes a donation to the American Red Cross to support, appropriately, local blood banks. Student tickets cost $10.

Collage 2022

The University of Akron School of Music will offer "Collage," its 13th annual non-stop musical showcase, at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at E.J. Thomas Hall, 198 Hill St. The event will feature bands, choirs, orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Brass Choir, Steel Drum Band, Opera/Lyric Theatre, Percussion Ensemble, Marching Band drum line, and faculty and student soloists and chamber ensembles, plus a special performance by UA’s Dance Program.

'The Great Leap'

An American college basketball team is in Beijing for a "friendship game" against a Chinese squad that becomes a high-stakes battle in Lauren Yee's "The Great Leap" at Cleveland Play House's Outcalt Theatre, opening at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and running through Nov. 20. The year is 1989 as cultures and generations clash in this darkly comic sports drama set against the Tiananmen Square uprising.

Pianist Cann in Canton

Pianist Michelle Cann will perform Florence Price's Piano Concerto in One Movement at 7 p.m. Sunday with the Canton Symphony at Umstatt Performing Arts Hall, 2331 17th St. NW, Canton. Also on the program will be Franck's "Le Chasseur mauidt," Strauss' "Burleske for Piano and Orchestra" and Tchaikovsky's "Francesa da Rimini."
