An art reception highlights 7 events happening in Brunswick this week

NC artist exhibit works at Sunset River Gallery

Frank Campion, an acclaimed North Carolina artist, will have an opening reception Friday, Sept. 15, from 5-7 p.m. at Sunset River Gallery, 10283 Beach Drive SW, Calabash.

The show titled “dichotomies" will include works on both canvas and paper.

After earning his bachelor’s degree in fine arts at Harvard University, Campion taught design and drawing. Campion works out of his studio near Winston-Salem. He was featured in Liza Roberts' 2022 book "The Art of the State," celebrating artists who are contributing to the North Carolina's growing reputation in visual arts.

Campion's works will be on display through Saturday, Oct. 21.

Sandbar lecture series: American Revolution

The Sandbar lecture series presents a talk on the American Revolution with facilitator Jim McKee. The event will focus on The 1776 Cape Fear Campaign, which was the first British invasion of the South and included the Battle of Moores Creek. McKee is a life-long student of history and graduate of Greensboro College. He is the site manager at Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site. The museum will open at 5 p.m. The lecture will be held 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 at the Museum of Coastal Carolina, 21 East Second St., Ocean Isle Beach, free with museum admission. Social Media Made Simple

Out of the Box Learning will present the seminar Social Media Made Simple. The seminar presented by Jessica Fuller, director, marketing and communications, Margaret Rudd & Associates Inc. Realtors, and executive director, Octopus Digital, will show you easy ways to use Facebook and Instagram to market your business. The seminar will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13. Shallotte Summerfest concert series

The Brunswick Parks & Recreation Department presents the Shallotte Summerfest concert series. Too Much Sylvia will perform beach, R&B, pop music from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 at the Mulberry Park Amphitheater, 123 Mulberry St., Shallotte. Bring a chair or blanket.

Sunset Beach Summer Market

The open-air market will be from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 at Sunset Beach Town Park, 206 Sunset Boulevard North. The market showcases area artists and growers providing handmade arts and crafts, baked goods, and home-grown produce.

Brunswick Riverwalk Farmers Market

Angie's Fresh Produce, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sundays. Fun Time Ice Cream, noon-8 p.m. Monday-Friday and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Seaview Crab Company 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sundays.

Shallotte Farmers Market

Also known as Market on Mulberry. Open 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 at 123 Mulberry St., Shallotte. Local vendors offering baked goods, arts and crafts, flowers, eggs, herbs, vegetables and fruits, honey, poultry, beans, plants, wine. Details: 910-754-4032.
