All About Art: Sarah Lyons finds meditation and gratitude in work

“I want my art to have a life of its own, and for my creativity to be a catalyst within others.”

Sarah Rose Lyons

Sarah Lyons is an emerging artist who says she draws inspiration from the beauty around us and taking care of the environment for others to enjoy as well. She says art is therapeutic and spiritual, her meditation, her way of expressing gratitude for things we’ve been given that we often overlook.

Sarah says she believes so deeply in her art and its cause that she started using art in unique ways in hopes of inspiring others to see beauty in our everyday messes. Art should be obtainable for everyone, not just those who can purchase large collective pieces but those who enjoy the simple, subtle print hanging on their walls, she says. Sarah’s artwork can be seen on biodegradable Swedish dish cloths and tea towels that have eco-friendly water-based pigment paint. For those who enjoy the tradition of a beautiful greeting card, she creates those as well. ARTIST STATEMENT

“I believe art is a powerful voice, that visual metaphors and symbols communicate meaning and can incite change. I am moved by art that demands participation—that is, art that seeks to pull its audience into the ideas and elements of the art itself while simultaneously pushing the viewer into creating a better story for themselves and the world in which they live. I want my art to have a life of its own and for my creativity to be a catalyst within others. My goal is to explore profound questions and ideas, to be present in and filled by this amazing earth, to live fully within my environment as a mother, lover, and artist, and to respond to this mind-blowing miracle of life by creating art that speaks.”
