U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minnesota, says she is drawing up new articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump after the shocking insurrection at the Capitol.
"Donald J. Trump should be impeached by the House of Representatives & removed from office by the United States Senate," she said on Twitter.
"We can’t allow him to remain in office, it’s a matter of preserving our Republic and we need to fulfill our oath."
I am safe, but heartbroken about what we are enduring at our nation’s Capitol.
Running for our lives as Members of Congress in the United States is really devastating and totally shocking. https://t.co/7pAeikE9TQ— Ilhan Omar (@IlhanMN) January 6, 2021
Others reacted to the idea on social media.
It is critical in my view that impeachment, expulsion of members, and charges follow today's actions.

Trump was only the third American president to be impeached (for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, in 2019), although he was not removed from office.

As flash bangs illuminate the windows we must accept that the President of the United States incited and is actively allowing a terrorist attack on the Capitol.
That’s what this is. Say it loud.
Enact 25. Impeach. Remove.
