Artist’s ‘provocative’ works to exhibit in Modesto; Gallo Center shows

An internationally known Iraqi artist brings his works to the Mistlin Gallery. A series of shows at the Gallo Center include male vocal ensemble Chanticleer. Saadi Al Kaabi

“Discourse of Silence” is a solo exhibit of the works of Saadi Al Kaabi at Mistlin Gallery. Now a resident of Ceres, Al Kaabi’s paintings have been in museums and shows from Baghdad and New Delhi to Paris and New York. “His works are complex and provocative,” according to a press release, “portraying images that demonstrate determination, which has distinguished him in the Iraqi studio.”

Chanticleer

Chanticleer is known internationally for its blend of 12 male voices ranging from soprano to bass and its original interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz and popular genres, along with contemporary. The group plans a performance at the Gallo Center.

Face to Face

Kenny Metcalf and Tony Monaco take to the Gallo Center stage to salute Elton John and Billy Joel in Face 2 Face. The show simulates the artists’ joint performances, with hits including “Crocodile Rock,” “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me,” “Candle in the Wind,” “Piano Man,” “Uptown Girl,” “An Innocent Man” and more.

Joe Mazzaferro

Trumpeter Joe Mazzaferro brings his quintet back to the Gallo Center for another offering of “Jazz on the Stage.” The performance puts the audience on the stage of the Foster Family Theater in a cabaret setting with table seating and a no-host bar featuring wine, beer, soft drinks and snacks.

“Waitress”

This comedic Broadway musical features original music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles at the Gallo Center. It’s the story of a waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of getting out of her small town and marriage. A baking contest offers her a chance at a fresh start. The musical stage show is based on the 2007 movie of the same name, starring Keri Russell.
