Arts Fest 5K, 10 mile races returning to Happy Valley after three years, but in a new spot

The Arts Festival Races are returning to this year’s festival but will be in a new location.

The Nittany Valley Running Club’s arts festival races are the oldest races in central Pennsylvania and have been on a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But that will end this year as the 10-mile, 5K and kids fun run events will return this summer, organizers announced in a press release Thursday.

The Sue Crowe Memorial NVRC Arts Festival 5K and 10 Mile Races — named in honor of the local running legend who died in 2006 — will be held at 8:30 a.m. July 16 at the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg. The races were previously held on Penn State’s campus.

The 5K course will follow roads behind the museum. The 10-mile run will begin in the same area and follow the 5K course before running along Warner Boulevard toward Oak Hall and Linden Hall, and completing the “Linden Loop” before returning to the museum.

Race participants will have “plenty of time” to be back in downtown State College before the Arts Festival booths open for the final day at 11 a.m., the release states.

Participants can pick up race packets or register from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 15 at the Nittany Valley Running Club’s booth at Arts Fest, in the Mount Nittany Health tent across from Schlow Centre Region Library.

Online registration or via mail is available at runsignup.com/Race/PA/Boalsburg/NVRCArtsFest5Kand10MileRaces. The registration fee is $25, plus processing fees.

Day-of registration and packet pick up will occur from 7-8 a.m. at the Boalsburg Fire Hall. Parking is available at the Fire Hall and vehicles will be allowed to remain there throughout the race.
