Appearing as part of the DC FanDome event, Ezra Miller has confirmed that The Flash: Flashpoint will launch DC’s multiverse. The multiverse will include HBO Max events, according to DC Films president Walter Hamada.

Not only that, but the crossover will allow Michael Keaton’s Batman to get his sewing kit out. We’ll explain.

DC’s multiverse, which first appeared in Flash comic ‘The Flash Of Two Worlds,’ posits there’s an infinite universe of parallel worlds, all with their own take on the superheroes we know and love. It’s a concept that’s about to make every single previous film and TV show all part of the same canon.

“This film is immensely important,” Miller said. “If you look around the DC Universe, we have all of these characters that exist within their own bubbles. We even have multiple iterations of the same story. This movie, by opening that door that Flashpoint did in the comics, all of these stories and characters can start to collide.”

Speaking of characters starting to collide, The Flash FanDome panel also revealed that Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne designs Barry Allen’s new slimline outfit - which is a bit ironic, when you consider Bruce can’t turn his head in his own super suit.

Flashpoint director Andy Muschietti unveiled the images, saying, “It’s Barry Allen’s new suit. As you can see, it’s more organic, you can see light embedded in it. It’s been built by his friend Bruce Wayne this time.”

And, just in case you were in any doubt about which Bruce Wayne (as Ben Affleck’s take on the character will also appear in this movie), an image of Michael Keaton’s Batman backing up Barry appeared on the livestream screen as Muschietti spoke.

But that’s not all! Speaking earlier as part of a multiverse panel that led into The Flash revelations, DC Films president Walter Hamada announced that the multiverse movies will directly tie into HBO Max properties.

“[With] the idea of the multiverse, HBO Max becomes this venue where we can meet in the middle. If there was a sense where TV was TV and film was film, Max becomes this place where everything gathers in that space. We’ll explore different opportunities and cross back over. I’m just excited about the potential.”

And what potential. When the Marvel Cinematic Universe was still a wrinkle in Kevin Feige’s cape, Warner Brothers had already sewn up the superhero movie market, thanks to blockbusters like the original Superman, and Tim Burton’s Batman.

Then along came Nolan’s realistic vision, before Zack Snyder’s darker take on the mythology, and the unexpected success of Todd Phillips’ standalone Joker.

Each movie made an impact in its own way, but DC’s own cinematic universe was still out of reach. What the multiverse does is bring together all of these disparate properties under the same umbrella, giving DC more freedom to experiment with their characters, allowing them to give established auteurs and new voices an equal chance to play with their cinematic action figures, without worrying about them getting broken.

Hamada continued: “Matt Reeves can continue to build out his Gotham. Those are things that we can do because we don’t have to worry about how that would impact Aquaman 2 or The Flash, because it’s all just part of the multiverse."
