New Asbury Park councilwoman, Mayor Moor to be sworn in on New Year's Day

ASBURY PARK - The city's newest City Council member, Angela Ahbez-Anderson, and Mayor John Moor will take their oaths of office during Asbury Park's organization meeting on Jan 1.

Mayor John Moor was reelected in November to serve another term in office, defeating challengers Felicia Simmons and Sonja Mack in the November elections. Moor's de facto running mate, incumbent Councilman Jesse Kendle, lost his bid for reelection to challenger Angela Ahbez-Anderson.

Ahbez-Anderson and Moor will be sworn in at the organization meeting.

"I am honored and humbled by the voters of Asbury Park who have given me the opportunity to serve. My goal is to address their concerns and will work with our city manager, mayor and council members to effect change and bring resolve to the many issues facing Asbury Park," Ahbez-Anderson said.

Ahbez-Anderson has been a city resident for 30 years and served on the school board from 2011 to 2021, including five terms as president of the board.

"I am looking forward to a smooth transition. In my first two months, I will be busy acquainting myself with the process of being a council member. I will be learning and listening, so that I may vote on what is in the best interest of all city residents. My personal goal is to be effective, engaged and available to all residents," Ahbez-Anderson said.

Moor is also looking forward to 2023.

"Just hoping it is a healthy 2023 for everybody. As far as what is going to be on the City's plate, we have the new firehouse, we have projects that weren't completed in 2022. We are just going to take it one day at a time and try to do the best we can," Moor said.

The municipal organization meeting will take place at noon on Jan. 1 in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, One Municipal Plaza.
