Ash From Sangay Volcano Eruption Darkens Sky Over Riobamba, Ecuador

The sky was obscured over the city of Riobamba, Ecuador, after the Sangay volcano expelled a column of ash more than five miles high, officials said.

Videos filmed by Twitter user @AndresYambay13 shows the darkened sky over Riobamba.

According to the National Service for Risk and Emergency Management of Ecuador, the Sangay volcano emitted an 8.48-kilometer column of ash westwards on Thursday, affecting seven districts in the Chimborazo province. Credit: @AndresYambay13 via Storyful
