Asheville food bites: Krispy Kreme on Patton, farmhouse fête, wine dinner, food convention

ASHEVILLE - Rumors of a doughnut shop's closing squashed; French immersion dinner in the Southern Appalachian Mountains; dinner and wine pairing celebrating the fall season; and a meeting of the minds to reduce food waste and increase sustainable solutions.

The future of Krispy Kreme

In May, social media users reacted to a real estate website listing the sale of property that included Krispy Kreme at 960 Patton Ave.

The Citizen Times reached out to Krispy Kreme for a response regarding rumors of its sale and eventual closure.

“We continue to serve our loyal guests in the Asheville community and have no plans to close our 960 Patton Ave. shop. The building is for sale by the owner,” corporate spokesperson Cassie Williams said via email.

Krispy Kreme has renewed the lease for its doughnut shop at 90 Patton Ave.

Commercial broker Jason Burk, of Whitney Commercial Real Estate Services, explained that Krispy Kreme, as well as the neighboring Tropical Gardens Mini Golf, had leases in place and that the sale of real estate was common.

Tropical Gardens Mini Golf owner/operator Mark Zimmerman told the Citizen Times in an email that the local, family-owned recreational center, which has been open for 25 years, would not be closed, or sold.

Krispy Kreme’s lease was to expire on Oct. 31. The doughnut shop’s red light will continue to illuminate Patton Avenue for the foreseeable future.

On Oct. 18, Burk confirmed that the doughnut chain has renewed their lease at the Patton Avenue site for the next five years.
