ASHEVILLE - Ready for a sweet, gooey sugar rush in the middle of this summertime mountain heat?

The nation’s largest cookie company, which debuted its first Asheville location a year-and-a-half ago in Westgate Shopping Center, will offer prizes, music and their famous sweet treats to celebrate the grand opening of its second location June 28 in South Asheville.

The grand opening of the new Crumbl Cookies at 816 Hendersonville Road, Suite 10, will be hosted by franchise owner Josh Petty and his team from 8 a.m. to midnight.

The event will be a sweet experience complete with music from DJs at local station 98.1 The River, starting around noon, menu samples and a chance for someone to win a Crumbl “party box.”

“We try to keep it fun,” Petty said on the grand opening's offerings.

The Crumbl menu’s six decadent flavors change weekly, rotating through more than 200 recipes in total. During the grand opening, the new Crumbl location will offer the following cookies:

  1. Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chunk: “Chocolate chip, but make it chunky — a delicious cookie filled with irresistible semi-sweet chocolate chunks and a sprinkle of flaky sea salt.”

  2. Lemon Cupcake: “A lemony vanilla cookie topped with a swirl of velvety lemon frosting and a touch of white sprinkles.”

  3. Peanut Butter Cookies and Cream: “The perfect combo of chocolate and peanut butter with the sweet crunch of cookies & cream bits.”

  4. Original: “The tried-and-true cookie peppered with sweet and crispy M&M's Candies.”

  5. Strawberry Ice Cream Bar: “A strawberry-and-vanilla-stuffed cookie layered with whipped buttercream and a delicate crunch of vanilla-strawberry streusel.”

  6. Sugar Shark: “A soft vanilla sugar cookie topped with a creamy swirl of SHARK WEEK inspired blue vanilla frosting and gummy sharks.”

The new Crumbl Cookies location is located at 1816 Hendersonville Rd., Unit 10, near Publix grocery store and Jersey Mike's Subs.

Occasionally, including during the week of the grand opening, the franchise also offers a “mystery cookie.” Petty let the Citizen Times in on their secret flavor between greeting customers at the new location’s soft opening.

“About once a month, we get to have a mystery cookie,” Petty said. “Each store has to choose its own flavor that it wants to run for a mystery. So this is one of those weeks where we have a seventh cookie, which is our Snickerdoodle Cupcake."

During their July 27 soft opening, Petty said his team is getting a chance to get accustomed to the routine while preparing for their upcoming event. With thousands of scoops of cookie dough mixed, wrapped and ready to bake, and the kitchen behind Petty still bustling as he spoke, it was clear that the team was gearing up for a big day.

“We’re almost at the point where we've got six full fridges ready to go," Petty said. "I think that's like 6,000 cookies, or something. So we're prepared for it.”

After the success Petty has had with his first location, he says the Hendersonville Road location won’t be the last. He hopes to eventually share Crumbl Cookies with more of North Carolina by opening further locations in Hendersonville and Waynesville.

For now, however, Petty is excited to show a new area of the city what his team — and their treats — are made of.

"We're just excited to be bringing Crumbl to South Asheville and let people come in and sample some of our amazing cookies,” said Petty.

The South location will have the same operating hours as the Westgate location: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 8 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday. It will be closed on Sundays.
