Ashland City Schools to auction former Osborn Elementary property

News In Brief

Ashland City Schools Board of Education

Monday, Feb. 13 special meeting

KEY ACTION Agreed to auction the former Osborn Elementary School property.

DISCUSSION The public auction for the property at 544 E. Main St. will be held with NextHome Next Stepp Realty at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 1. The property is no longer needed for school purposes, according to the board.

The Osborn property has been empty since 2015. Upkeep costs for unused lots are minimal, Treasurer Kyle Klingler wrote in an email.

The minimum bid will be $250,000, he said. Proceeds from the sale will be deposited in the district's permanent improvement fund.

OTHER ACTION:

  • Voted 5-0 to formally hire Scott Valentine as the new Ashland High head football coach with a one-year special duty contract for the 2023-2024 school year. Eleven candidates applied but only three had head coaching experience at either the high school or collegiate level, a requirement set by the district, according to Interim Superintendent Steve Paramore. Two of the three candidates were interviewed; the third opted out.

  • Valentine's compensation will be $8,241 for the August-December season. Compensation is set by the Ashland City Teachers Association, Klingler wrote via email. Valentine previously served the district from 2002 to 2018. "We're very excited and blessed to have him back, but he's even more of a blessing for our young men," Paramore said on Tuesday morning. "He's a better man even than a football coach."
