Ashland community gathers for Sanctity of Human Life service

ASHLAND − The Ashland Pregnancy Care Center held it's annual Sanctity of Human Life community service at Trinity Lutheran Church Sunday.

The service was originally scheduled for Jan. 21, which would have coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision.

Darlene Yost, a pro-life advocate since the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973, was the guest speaker.

The wife of Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost shared her story as a child of adoption.

"I was chosen," she said of her adoptive parents. "Choosing adoption is a very brave and loving thing to do."

The Yosts reflected on their family of three adult children and four grandchildren, noting they might not be here if Darlene Yost had been born during Roe v. Wade.

State Rep. Melanie Miller, R-Ashland, gave an update on the Pregnancy Care Center where she also serves as executive director. She said the center began in 1981, stemming from a community prayer circle concerned with the direction after the Roe v. Wade decision.

"Women deserve better than abortions," Miller said, noting since the center's founding it has supported the births of more than 2,000 babies.

Sunday's service included the Trinity Lutheran Children's Choir singing, "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" and "Jesus Loves Me."
