Ashland County Commissioners approve final payment for jail camera and intercom project

ASHLAND - After transferring $168,818 for repayment of a portion of the June 17, 2021 advance for the replacement of the jail cameras and intercoms and later approving the advance back, Ashland County Commissioners approved at its meeting Thursday, May 26 the final installment payback with the final balance sheet now at zero dollars.

At the June 17, 2021 meeting, $600,000 was authorized as an advance to begin payment on the project with the amount to be paid back when funds became available.

“We are going in the right direction,” said Commissioner Mike Welch after Commissioner Denny Bittle emphatically said, “I will move to approve that.”

At a monthly rental amount for $233.89, a lease agreement was approved with the Department of Job & Family Services for the Hartman-Spreng building. The agreement will run from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.

A quote in the amount of $44,980 from Standard Plumbing & Heating for the replacement of the humidifier at the County Jail was accepted on the recommendation of Maintenance Supervisor Dennis Harris.

A proposal from Tri-County Educational Service Center for a Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Youth Comprehensive Case Management Evaluation Program (CCMEP) and/or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program was accepted. This proposal came on the recommendation by DJ&FS Director Peter Stefaniuk.

Solid Waste District Coordinator James Skora was approved to travel to Columbus on June 1 for the Solid Waste of North America Meeting at a cost of $76.56.

Ashland County Commissioners make multiple appropriations and transfers

Jail Operations had four separate appropriations with the two largest being for $100,000 each, one for contract services and the other for contract repairs.

Dale-Roy School had $267,180 appropriated for the County Residential Services capital project.

Community Control had seven appropriations with the two largest being $75,000 for equipment and $44,160 for employee wages.

The final two appropriations went to Dog & Kennel ($2,000) for supplies needed and Soil & Water ($1,590) for County Planning Fees.

Commissioners did approve a 9:30 a.m. executive session to discuss the possible sale of property.

UP NEXT The commissioners will meet Thursday, June 2 at 9 a.m. in the Commissioner’s Conference Room on the second floor of the County Office Building. The meetings are open to the public, but also live-streamed on the Ashland, OH County Government Facebook page.
