Ashland County Commissioners hear about courthouse HVAC, jail cameras, intercom projects
ASHLAND - Ashland County Maintenance Superintendent Denny Harris gave a detailed update on both the County Courthouse HVAC Project and the County Jail Camera and Intercom Project.

“After talking with contractors yesterday, the completion date is possibly by the end of February,” said Harris about the jail project. “We are still waiting on about 100 intercoms and that would take about a week and a half. The biggest delay has been trying to get parts. It has been a very difficult project in there.”
Cost of the jail project is around $1.4 million.
The courthouse should be finished in the next six to 10 weeks.
“This has been a challenge for every contractor who has been in there due to the original construction of the courthouse,” Harris said. “They made this building to last forever.”
Harris said the thickness of the walls made drilling the holes, over 200, a challenge.
“The marble was soft, but the red brick was terrible to get through,” he added. “They are predicting the end of the project to be mid-February.”
Total cost of the HVAC is $837,987.
Bids opened for Loudonville Park Improvement Project
Commissioners approved advertising bids until 9:15 a.m. on Feb. 10 for both lights and labor for light installation for the Loudonville Park Improvement Project. The bids will be opened at the commissioners meeting that morning.
Two transfers were made with the first being $100,000 to Children’s Services (Commissioners) and $8,295.04 from the American Rescue Plan funds to help pay maintenance wage reimbursement for the HVAC project.
An agreement with the Ohio Department of Transportation was approved. The agreement will allow for a series of guardrail replacement/installation projects on county roads to commence.
New full-time employee added to Job and Family Services
Stacey Castellucci had her employment with Job and Family Services changed from part time to full time beginning on Jan. 24. Castellucci is a Social Service Worker 2.
An amendment to the sub-grant agreement with the Greater Ohio Workforce Policy Board was approved for the county to provide services for re-employment and eligibility assessment.
UP NEXT The commissioners will meet Thursday, Jan 27 at 9 a.m. in the Commissioner’s Conference Room on the second floor of the County Office Building. The meetings are open to the public, but also live-streamed on the Ashland, OH County Government Facebook page.
