Jul. 14—ASHLAND — For the 31st year in a row, the City of Ashland and Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission were awarded certificates of achievement for excellence in financial reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada, for "comprehensive" financial reports of the last fiscal year.
The certificate is the highest form of recognition in the field of government accounting and financial reporting, reflecting a "significant accomplishment" for the finance team, said Ashland Finance Director Melanie Purcell on July 9 in the award announcement.
"The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive 'spirit of full disclosure' to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report," according to Purcell.
Purcell said this recognition offers residents "every reason" to have confidence in the city's financial reporting process, laying a strong foundation for the City Council to make informed policy decisions.
