Several changes are coming to the Ashland Times-Gazette.

In early April, the newspaper's puzzle features will be revamped, and a change in print delivery frequency will begin in early May as the newspaper moves to mail delivery.

The Times-Gazette's Monday newspaper will be an e-Edition - an exact replica of the newspaper - starting May 2. Tuesday through Saturday the newspaper will be delivered to subscribers' homes via the U.S. Postal Service beginning May 3.

Times-Gazette announces print delivery changes, including an e-Edition only on Mondays

Responding to continued rapid shifts toward digital news consumption, the Times-Gazette's change in print delivery frequency begins May 9.

The newspaper will cease home delivery on Mondays and instead will provide subscribers with a full digital replica of the newspaper that day, filled with local news, advertising and features such as comics and puzzles.

There also will be a change in how you get the print paper. The Times-Gazette will be delivered to subscribers via the U.S. Postal Service starting May 3.

The last date T-G subscribers will have the newspaper delivered by a carrier to their homes will be Monday, May 2. The Times-Gazette publishes Monday through Saturday and does not print a Sunday edition.

The new model means subscribers will get newspapers delivered by mail to their homes five days a week, with a digital newspaper available every day but Sundays.

Delivery of the newspaper will be at the same time as regular mail service.

Labor shortages have impacted newspaper deliveries across the country, and this move is expected to ensure consistency in delivery for T-G subscribers.

The newspaper remains committed to serving the Ashland County community with local news and sports coverage.

“We’ve been much more than just a print newspaper for many years as we’ve built a significant online audience that seeks local news from our apps and social media channels,” said northern Ohio Regional Editor Michael Shearer. “Print remains an important part of our overall strategy, but as our world changes we must continue to serve the community in new ways.”

The Monday digital replica will have the same look and news as the printed newspaper. The digital format also has some additional features, such as the ability to clip and share articles with friends and family and adjust the text size.

In addition, subscribers will now have access to the USA TODAY Network’s full suite of e-Editions across the country, as well as ad-free access to the USA TODAY Crossword puzzle. The Times-Gazette is part of the USA TODAY Network, and the delivery frequency change being announced today also is taking place at numerous other publications in the network.

All print subscribers have full digital access, meaning they have the ability to read news updates throughout the day, subscriber-only stories and video and audio features, among other benefits. Subscribers also have 24/7 access to obituaries, legal notices, and classifieds on our website.

News and sales staffing at Ashland Times-Gazette will not change as a result of this. However, those staffs will be even better aligned toward digital delivery.

“Providing daily and immediate local news coverage remains our top newsroom priority,” Shearer said. “This change enhances our ability to provide the most complete local news coverage while evolving our business model. It remains critical for everyone to support local journalism with subscriptions and advertising.”

Anyone with questions about the changes can access their account at help.times-gazette.com or call customer service at 419-281-2950, option 7.

What's changing with the puzzles

To improve the design process, puzzles, games and comics are being relocated and a few new options also are being added.

The daily crossword will continue to be from McMeel and the newspaper will continue to offer horoscopes and the Jumble. New features being added include Sudoku and Kubok 16. Ask Amy will be replaced by Washington Post advice columnist Carolyn Hax.

Answers to the puzzles can be found daily at answers.usatoday.com.

The puzzle changes will take effect Monday, April 4.
