AUBURN — Ashley Williams, a four-star edge from Zachary High School in Louisiana, has decommitted from Auburn football. He made the announcement via Twitter on Thursday.

Williams, who stands 6-foot-5 and is listed at 225 pounds, is tabbed as the 18th-best recruit in the state of Louisiana by the 247Sports composite rankings. He's also rated as the 40th-best player at the edge position in the country.

"I would like to thank all the coaches and staff at Auburn that recruited me and believed in my talent," Williams wrote. "However, after recent staff changes and conversations with my family, I have decided to decommit from Auburn and reevaluate other opportunities.

"Thanks again to the entire Auburn staff and community for all the love and support that they have shown throughout this process."

Bryan Harsin was fired as Auburn's coach in late October, and the Tigers hired Hugh Freeze from Liberty to take over.

Williams originally committed to Nebraska in July, but flipped to Auburn less than a month after declaring he intended to be a Cornhusker. He had been committed to the Tigers since Aug. 3.

Auburn now has 10 commits in its 2023 recruiting class, headlined by Montgomery Catholic running back Jeremiah Cobb and Carver (Georgia) defensive lineman Darron Reed. The only player listed as an edge by 247Sports in the class is Brenton Williams, a three-star recruit from Opelika.
