Sarasota County held a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday morning to officially open the Ashton Trailhead on the Legacy Trail. The new park includes restrooms, picnic tables and shelters with grills, a bike repair station, playground, and space for food trucks. The Legacy Trail is a 19.6 mile continuous recreation trail for cyclists and pedestrians, from Shamrock Park in Venice to Bahia Vista St. in Sarasota. An additional 2.8 miles, extending the trail from Bahia Vista St. to Payne Park is expected to be completed in February of 2022.
