Asian Night Market Festival to feature Chefs Fest, food trucks, drum dances and K-pop

Classen Boulevard will be closed to traffic from NW 23 to NW 26 streets after 5 p.m. Saturday to make room for the 2022 Asian Night Market Festival, which will commence at Military Park, 2520 N Classen Blvd.

Organizer Jenny Nguyen said the evening event will offer fun for all ages, including arts and crafts, face-painting, cultural dance performances, a fashion show highlighting traditional and modern design, live music, and plenty of local flavor.

Super Cao Nguyen Market, which is adjacent to the street party, will host Chefs Fest 2022 in concert with the event. Chefs Fest will featuring a rotating menu of original items throughout the evening from a roster of local chefs. The Asian Night Market will also enlist 16 local food vendors, including Tamashii Ramen. Nguyen said five drink vendors are committed, along with more than 30 local businesses and retailers.

For Chefs Fest, Hai Luong, of Super Cao Nguyen, has lined up an esteemed roster of local chefs to appear throughout the event, including: Jimmy Mays of The Hamilton making chilled chile-crisp shrimp over green rice, Kevin Lee of Birdies Fried Chicken serving Korean Fried Chicken, Jeff Chanchaleune of Ma Der Lao Kitchen making skewers and rice salad, Chris Becker of Della Terra Pasta making Asian Pasta European style, Danh Do of Gogi Go offering fried ice-cream sandwiches, and folks excited for a sneak taste of El Coyote will be in luck, Sedalia's will be offering a South American-style ceviche mixto.

Brats on buns from Royal Bavaria will available and other participating chefs will come from restaurants including Nonesuch, Grey Sweater, The Bradford House and Rococo. Folks from The Homeless Alliance will be on hand to sell tickets as some proceeds will benefit their cause.

Nguyen said entertainment includes Korean and Japanese drum dances, lantern dancing, a Hindi rap group, K-pop, cherry blossom painting, and a steam bun eating contest. She said hotel packages will be among the giveaways and Citizens Bank will be giving away scholarships.

"It's a great chance for the community to come together and support local businesses and vendors to celebrate Oklahoma City's diverse culture," she said.

The event is set for 5 to 11:30 p.m. on Classen between NW 24 and 26 streets with parking available all around the district.
