Asian Pop-Up Cinema to pop up at Lincoln Yards drive-in next month

With a highly competitive price of $15 per vehicle, a fraction of the cost of other Chicago area outdoor venues this year in pandemic entertainment, the bi-annual Asian Pop-Up Cinema will present its fall film festival, in part, at The Drive-In at Lincoln Yards Sept. 10-Oct. 31.

It’s a 22-film collection, 15 streaming online. Among the virtual offerings: the world premiere of “Happy-Go-Lucky Days,” a three-part, 60-minute anime based on the Japanese manga erotica series by Takako Shimura.

The seven outdoor screenings feature local and U.S. premieres at the Sterling Bay Lincoln Yards redevelopment site. The pop-up drive-in operates at a 40-vehicle capacity, and will include a free screening of the Chinese drama “The Climbers” Oct. 1. The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China sponsors this event, and patrons will receive free mooncakes to go with the Everest expedition adventure.

This fall’s roster represents China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines and South Korea.
