We asked the 40 Under 40 Class of 2023: What's the best movie or TV you've seen this year?

We asked our 40 Under 40 Class of 2023 to name the best TV show or movie they've seen in the past year. Here's what they said:

Dr. Michelle E. Bates: "Abbott Elementary"

Karen Elizabeth Bussey: "The Woman King"

Dr. Elizabeth Victoria Caldwell: "Wednesday"

Tiffany D. Campbell: Movie: "The Woman King." Netflix series: "From Scratch." Favorite show: "Law & Order."

Christopher Cauley: "The Watcher" was a drama/documentary on Netflix that just got crazier and crazier as it went!

Deanna L. Coleman: This might be too telling — but I love "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law." A strong, female, attorney superhero? Sign me up!

Qu'Derrick R. Covington: "Bel-Air"

Jamaal M. Doran: I do not watch much television. However, I have found myself binge-watching "Bel-Air." I must admit that it is an excellent reboot of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."

"Abbott Elementary" was a top TV show for some of The Fayetteville Observer's 40 Under 40 Class of 2023.
"Abbott Elementary" was a top TV show for some of The Fayetteville Observer's 40 Under 40 Class of 2023.

Erica Dunham: In the last year, I would say the best TV show that I have (re)watched is either "A Different World"(Seasons 2-6 only) or "Bluey," which is a surprisingly well-written children's show.

Manika N Greene: "Snowfall"

Travis Greene: The best TV show I’ve seen is "Martin." The best movie I’ve seen is "Bad Boys for Life.

Jasmine Harris: "Power Book III: Raising Kanan" and "BMF."

Basil Hasapis: "Curb Your Enthusiasm"

Morgan Hrabovsky: I'm not much of a TV/movie person. I tend to stick to my old faves like "Friends."

Joshua N. James: "BoJack Horseman" was incredible.

Bryan D. Johnson: "Snowfall"

Tyson Johnson: "All American"

Rakeem "Keem" Jones: "Bel-Air"

Dr. Shameka R. Joyner: "John Wick!"

Krissy Khan: "Wentworth" on Netflix

Katana Lemelin: "The Owl House"

Amy Love: "Creed III": There are so many life lessons taught in the movie. Watching it reinforced the importance of remembering when people count you out, you can come back stronger. Never underestimate the heart of a champion!

Hannah Lucas: "The Last Kingdom"

Dr. Erika McCormick: Netflix financial literacy series titled: "How To Get Rich."

Anna Meyer: "The Handmaid's Tale" — it is so dark, but the characters are so interesting.

Michael Molina: "Ted Lasso"

Michaela Penix: "Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story" — the love story was amazing

Adam Phillips: "Welcome to Wrexham"

Chasity Poole: "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago P.D."

Catharin Lawrence Shepard: Neil Gaiman’s "The Sandman" series on Netflix, and Jordan Peel’s film "Nope" are recent favorites.

Shelby Thompson: "Rewind" by Sasha Neulinger

Adrienne Trego: "Everything, Everywhere All at Once." It deserved every Oscar it received, including best picture. It is a remarkably beautiful, wonderfully absurd and deeply existential film.

Tercel D. Walker: "Designated Survivor"

Jamaisha Rochelle Ward: "Modern Family" reruns, "UnPrisoned" and "Abbott Elementary."

Deontae K. Watson: "Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon"

Adrian T. Williams: I haven't been to the movies in the last year but I love the TV show "The Masked Singer!"

Phillip Woods: "The Night Agent"

Matthew John Wynne: "This is Us"
