‘Asking the community to roll up its sleeves’: American Red Cross declares blood crisis

The American Red Cross declared its first-ever nationwide blood crisis after it said the organization is facing its worst blood shortage in over a decade. "In recent weeks, we have had less than one day of blood supply of critical blood types, well below the five-day supply," said Christopher Losavio, American Red Cross Heart of the Valley CEO. The Red Cross supplies roughly 40% of the nation's blood supply and said recently it has only been able to meet one-quarter of the need. "We're really asking the community to roll up its sleeves and make sure people get the care they need," Losavio said. See more in the video above.
