An assistance center for residents who were displaced by a recent mobile home park fire in Desert Hot Springs will open Friday, county Supervisor V. Manuel Perez said.

The center, which will be at Desert Hot Springs High School, is designed to provide services to all residents of the Country Squire RV and Mobile Home Park, and especially the 45 to 50 people whose homes were destroyed or damaged in the July 18 fire.

The Riverside County Emergency Management Department, Desert Hot Springs city officials, county departments and state partners will coordinate to open the center, and agencies will be available to provide services that include obtaining vital records, tax preparation, insurance, employment, public health, housing and social services.

“We still have 11 families that are displaced, we need to make sure we assist them in transitioning into somewhere stable and have wraparound services available for them," Perez said in a statement. "Our goal at the end of the day as the county is that we are the safety net, we will step in any which way we can and do everything we can to be helpful.”

State Assemblymember Greg Wallis added in the statement: “It’s vital to ensure we partner with the appropriate agencies so our residents have the resources they need to get back on their feet. With the state’s help, we are working to assist those who are displaced and prevent this from happening again.”

The center is expected to be open Friday through Sunday starting at 9 a.m. (A closing time was not given.)

The Riverside County Housing and Workforce Solutions Department has engaged the Fair Housing Council of Riverside County to advocate on behalf of residents for clean up at the site. Fair Housing will be participating in the assistance center and will be on site to answer questions.
