Assisted living faculty planned for Metuchen's Middlesex Avenue

METUCHEN – A 64-bed assisted living and memory care facility could be coming to Middlesex Avenue.

Artis Senior Living is seeking preliminary and final major site plan and major subdivision approval to build a facility at 700 Middlesex Ave., property owned by Metuchen III LLC.

The application is scheduled to be presented to the borough Planning Board at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The facility is planned in the Oakite Site Redevelopment Area, a light industrial zone.

The applicant is looking to subdivide a portion of the property to create a new 70,018-square-foot lot to construct a 39,340-square-foot facility that would have 61 units with 64 beds to serve people suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, according to the application.

The facility would operate and will be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, according to the application.

The applicant is seeking variances for off-street parking spaces because 31 are required and 20 are planned. Plans also call for 8-foot-wide handicapped parking spaces when 12-feet wide is required.
